HeritageVault Technologies is seeking a Digital Archivist to join our dynamic records management team in New York City. You will steward born-digital materials, preserve critical cultural assets, and shape the metadata strategy that enables reliable discovery and long-term accessibility. This is a hands-on, governance-oriented role for professionals who combine archival rigor with modern information science.
Responsibilities include collaborating with stakeholders to define retention schedules, implementing preservation workflows, and ensuring compliance with industry standards for digital archives.

- Lead digital preservation initiatives, ensuring long-term integrity and accessibility of born-digital assets.
- Design and implement metadata schemas (e.g., Dublin Core, PREMIS) and ensure consistent taxonomy and controlled vocabularies.
- Oversee ingestion workflows using repository platforms (DSpace, Islandora, ArchivesSpace) and preservation tools (Archivematica).
- Develop and enforce records management policies, retention schedules, and access controls.
- Collaborate with IT, legal, and curatorial teams to manage risk and ensure compliance with privacy laws.
- Lead data migration projects and perform quality control checks on ingest batches.
- Produce technical documentation, training materials, and end-user guidance for staff.
- Monitor emerging standards and lead continuous improvement in archival practices.
Qualification
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Library Science, Archival Science, Information Science, or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in digital archives, records management, or information governance.
- Hands-on experience with repository platforms (DSpace, ArchivesSpace, Islandora) and preservation tools (Archivematica).
- Strong knowledge of metadata standards (Dublin Core, MODS, PREMIS) and taxonomy development.
- Understanding of legal and ethical considerations in archival access and privacy.
- Excellent project management, stakeholder communication, and documentation skills.
- Proficiency in scripting or basic data analysis is a plus (Python, SQL).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment and manage multiple priorities.
