We are seeking a skilled and motivated Archaeologist to join our well-resourced heritage team in Charleston, South Carolina. This full-time role supports community-driven archaeology, cultural resource management, and public outreach across coastal Carolina projects.

Responsibility

  • Conduct and supervise field surveys and excavations on CRM projects, ensuring safety and documentation standards.
  • Manage artifact handling, cataloging, conservation, and storage in accordance with professional and legal guidelines.
  • Prepare field notes, dig plans, site maps, and GIS data to support research and reporting.
  • Coordinate with CRM project managers, regulators, and local stakeholders to align objectives and timelines.
  • Oversee or mentor junior staff and volunteers; lead training on field methods and safety.
  • Contribute to research reports, publication-ready summaries, and presentations for conferences or public outreach programs.

Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field; Master’s preferred.
  • 2+ years of field experience in archaeology, preferably within CRM or academic projects.
  • Strong knowledge of field methods, typology, dating techniques, artifact handling, and conservation.
  • Proficiency with GIS (ArcGIS or QGIS), data management, and database entry.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; demonstrated ability to produce clear reports.
  • Ability to travel, work outdoors in varying conditions, and lift 40 lbs; valid driver's license.
