Responsibility
- Design and lead field sampling programs to monitor fish populations, habitats, and bycatch indicators.
- Analyze catch and effort data to support stock assessments and management decisions.
- Develop and validate statistical models using R or Python; communicate findings to stakeholders.
- Collaborate with regulatory agencies, researchers, and industry partners to implement sustainable practices.
- Prepare technical reports, scientific manuscripts, and policy briefs.
- Supervise field technicians and ensure high-quality data collection and QA/QC processes.
- Conduct GIS mapping and spatial analysis of fisheries resources and habitat use.
- Contribute to grant writing, project proposals, and funding stewardship.
Qualification
- Master's degree in Fisheries Science, Marine Biology, Ecology, or a related field (PhD preferred).
- 3+ years of experience in fisheries research, stock assessment, or aquatic resource management.
- Strong proficiency in data analysis with R, Python, or similar tools; experience with SAS or SQL is a plus.
- Experience with GIS software (ArcGIS/QGIS) and spatial analysis.
- Knowledge of national and regional fisheries regulations and ecosystem-based management principles.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to present complex data to non-technical audiences.
- Ability to work in field environments, including coastal settings and variable weather conditions.
- Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams.
