Atlantic Heritage Institute is seeking a motivated Historian and Research Specialist to join our Boston program. The successful candidate will conduct rigorous archival and primary source research, interpret historical materials, and translate findings into engaging narratives for public programming, exhibitions, and educational resources.
As a key member of our research team, you will collaborate with curators, educators, and digital humanities staff to advance our mission of making history accessible and relevant to diverse audiences.
Responsibility
- Conduct in-depth archival and primary-source research to support exhibitions, publications, and digital projects.
- Develop historically grounded narratives and interpretive materials for exhibitions, lectures, and online resources.
- Collaborate with curators, educators, and partners to design engaging programs and curricula.
- Assess, organize, and annotate historical collections using standard metadata practices.
- Publish scholarly articles and briefing notes; present findings to diverse audiences.
- Contribute to digital humanities initiatives, including digitization projects and data visualization of historical data.
- Mentor interns and junior researchers; provide guidance on research methodologies and writing.
Qualification
- Master’s degree in History or related field; PhD preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of professional research experience in history, archives, or museums.
- Strong proficiency in archival research, primary source analysis, and source attribution.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate complex findings into accessible content.
- Experience with public programming, exhibitions, or educational resources is a plus.
- Familiarity with digital humanities tools and metadata standards (EAD, Dublin Core) is desirable.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment; strong project management skills.
