Job description
We’re seeking a detail-oriented Museum Historian to join our dynamic research and public education team in Cambridge, MA. The ideal candidate will conduct rigorous archival research, interpret primary sources, and help develop engaging exhibits and public history programs for diverse audiences.
As a Museum Historian, you will collaborate with curators, educators, and external partners to produce scholarship-rich content that informs curatorial decisions, catalogs, and interpretive labels. Responsibility
- Conduct archival and primary source research to support exhibitions, publications, and digital projects.
- Collaborate with curators to develop interpretive narratives and exhibit labels for galleries and online platforms.
- Analyze historical data and provide rigorous sourcing, bibliographies, and historical context.
- Publish research findings in internal reports, academic journals, and public-facing blog posts.
- Plan and deliver engaging public programs, lectures, and educator workshops.
- Supervise research interns and volunteers; manage project timelines and budgets.
- Contribute to grant proposals and fundraising efforts by outlining historical significance and impact.
Qualification
- MA or PhD in History, Public History, or a related field.
- Demonstrated research experience with primary sources and archives.
- Experience with exhibit development, interpretation, and storytelling.
- Strong writing and editing skills; ability to produce accessible public-facing content.
- Familiarity with digital humanities, cataloging standards, and metadata.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills; ability to work with diverse audiences.
- Minimum 3 years professional experience in a museum, university, or historical society.
