Join Aurora Weather Labs, a leader in atmospheric research and operational forecasting. We are seeking a Senior Meteorologist to advance weather prediction capabilities, contribute to climate studies, and collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to deliver actionable insights for public safety, aviation, and energy sectors.
In this pivotal role, you will design experiments, lead model evaluation, and communicate complex results clearly to stakeholders and leadership.
Responsibility
- Lead development and evaluation of numerical weather prediction models and forecasting tools.
- Design and conduct experiments to quantify uncertainty and model skill across weather regimes.
- Collaborate with data engineers to ingest, quality-check, and process large meteorological datasets.
- Translate scientific findings into actionable forecasts for aviation, public safety, and energy customers.
- Present results to cross-functional teams and publish in peer-reviewed venues as appropriate.
- Mentor junior scientists and build a culture of rigorous scientific inquiry.
- Keep abreast of advances in machine learning and data assimilation to improve forecast skill.
Qualification
- MS or PhD in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a closely related field.
- 5+ years of experience in weather prediction, data assimilation, or climate research.
- Strong programming skills in Python (NumPy, SciPy, pandas) and MATLAB or R.
- Experience with NWP models (WRF, ICON, GFS/ECMWF) and data assimilation methods (EnKF, 4D-Var).
- Proficiency in data visualization and communicating complex results to non-technical audiences.
- Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure) and Git, Docker, and Linux environments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, collaboration, and project management abilities.
