NovaGrid Energy is seeking a seasoned Electrical Power Systems Engineer to join our Houston team. You will design and optimize power systems for utility-scale projects, renewable integration, and microgrid solutions. Responsibility
- Lead electrical power system design for grid-connected and off-grid projects, including substations, protection schemes, and distribution networks.
- Perform load flow, short-circuit, and dynamic studies using PSS/E, ETAP, or DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
- Develop and review protection coordination, relay settings, and SCADA HMI integration.
- Coordinate with civil, mechanical, and software teams to ensure seamless project execution.
- Prepare technical specifications, drawings, and bill of materials; support procurement and commissioning.
- Provide field support during commissioning and startup, diagnosing faults and optimizing performance.
- Ensure compliance with NEC, IEEE standards, and local regulations; contribute to HSE and quality programs.
Qualification
- Bachelorās degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field; Masterās preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in power systems engineering, substations, or renewable integration.
- Proficiency with power system analysis tools (PSS/E, ETAP, DIgSILENT, MATLAB/Simulink).
- Strong understanding of protection schemes, relay coordination, and switchgear selection.
- Experience with renewable energy integration (solar, wind, storage) and microgrid concepts.
- Solid knowledge of NEC, IEEE standards, and utility interconnection requirements.
- Excellent communication, project management, and collaborative skills; ability to work with diverse teams.
- Professional engineering license (PE) or eligibility is a plus.
