Lumina Fine Arts Gallery, a premier contemporary and modern art space in New York City, is seeking a Gallery Curator & Programs Manager to lead exhibition planning, artist relations, and public programs. The ideal candidate combines deep art historical knowledge with hands-on curatorial practice, strong project management, and a flair for storytelling through exhibitions. This role collaborates with artists, lenders, collectors, and educational partners to create compelling experiences that engage diverse audiences.
Responsibility
- Lead development and execution of ambitious solo and group exhibitions, including concept development, artist liaison, loan logistics, wall texts, and didactics.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, installation calendars, and vendor relationships from concept to opening.
- Coordinate acquiring and loaning works, insurance, condition reporting, and transportation in collaboration with registrars.
- Develop and curate public programs, talks, education events, and community engagement initiatives.
- Cultivate relationships with artists, lenders, collectors, museums, and contemporary art spaces to expand the gallery's network.
- Oversee cataloging, archiving, and documentation; contribute to marketing and artist press materials.
- Work with the development team to secure philanthropic support and donor relations.
Qualification
- Advanced degree in Art History, Fine Arts, Museum Studies, or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum 3-5 years of curatorial or gallery programming experience in contemporary/fine arts.
- Strong knowledge of international contemporary art scene, artists, and market trends.
- Proven project management, budgeting, and event coordination skills; ability to manage multiple exhibitions simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; strong writing for wall texts, catalogs, and press materials.
- Proficient in art handling, framing, conservation basics, insurance, and loan processes; knowledge of registrarial practices.
- Ability to work nights/weekends as needed for openings, events, and installations; collaborative team player with leadership qualities.
