Prairie Crest Farms is seeking a skilled Livestock Farm Manager to lead our multi-species operation in the heart of the Midwest. This role blends hands-on animal care with strategic operations management to ensure welfare, productivity, and sustainable farming practices across our herd and facilities.
In this leadership position, you will partner with veterinarians, nutritionists, and farm staff to optimize feeding programs, health monitoring, and performance metrics while maintaining top welfare standards.
Responsibility
- Oversee daily livestock care across cattle, sheep, and poultry, ensuring welfare, safety, and clean facilities.
- Develop and implement nutrition and feeding plans aligned with production goals.
- Coordinate herd health programs, vaccinations, parasite control, and preventive medical protocols.
- Plan breeding and calving/lambing/growth cycles to maximize productivity and genetic improvement.
- Manage housing, equipment maintenance, and barn facilities; supervise farm staff and contractors.
- Maintain accurate records using farm management software and comply with animal welfare and biosecurity regulations.
- Monitor budgets, inventory, and resource utilization to optimize costs and profitability.
Qualification
- High school diploma; Bachelor's degree in Agriculture, Animal Science, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum 3-5 years of livestock farming or farm management experience.
- Strong knowledge of livestock nutrition, welfare, and health management.
- Experience with breeding programs, vaccination schedules, and disease prevention.
- Proficiency with farm management software and basic data analysis; excellent record-keeping.
- Leadership skills with experience supervising a team and coordinating external contractors.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and safety-focused mindset; ability to work in physically demanding environments.
