Prairie Crest Farms is a leading family-owned livestock operation specializing in cattle and sheep across the Midwest. We’re seeking a proactive Livestock Farm Manager to oversee day-to-day farm activities, drive animal welfare, production efficiency, and sustainable farming practices.
As the Farm Manager, you will lead a small team, manage resources, and collaborate with veterinarians, nutritionists, and extension services to ensure healthy herds and high-quality meat products. Responsibility
- Oversee daily farm operations including feeding, milking (if applicable), housing, and grazing plans to optimize welfare and productivity.
- Develop and implement herd health programs, vaccination schedules, parasite control, and disease prevention.
- Plan and manage breeding programs, calving/lambing schedules, and genetics strategy to meet production targets.
- Monitor inventory of feed, medications, equipment, and maintenance supplies; coordinate procurement and vendor relationships.
- Lead safety, biosecurity, and environmental compliance across all farm activities.
- Maintain accurate records for animal health, genetics, production metrics, and financials; generate weekly/monthly reports.
- Recruit, train, and supervise farm staff; schedule shifts and performance reviews; promote a culture of teamwork and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with veterinarians, nutritionists, and extension services to implement best practices and optimize profitability.
Qualification
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on livestock farming experience, with 2+ years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Strong knowledge of cattle and sheep husbandry, nutrition, welfare, and veterinary basics.
- Proven ability to design and execute breeding and herd-health programs that align with production goals.
- Excellent organizational, budgeting, and problem-solving skills; comfortable with data-driven decision making.
- Demonstrated leadership and communication skills; able to motivate teams and coordinate with external partners.
- Commitment to safety, biosecurity, and environmental stewardship; ability to implement standard operating procedures and training.
- Basic proficiency with farm management software, MS Office, and record-keeping systems; ability to analyze production metrics.
