PrairieGate Farms is seeking a seasoned Livestock Farm Operations Manager to lead day-to-day operations across our cattle and swine facilities. This role blends hands-on animal care with strategic planning to optimize herd health, welfare, and productivity, while ensuring profitability and sustainability.
The successful candidate will partner with veterinary teams, nutritionists, and farm staff to implement best practices in animal welfare, biosecurity, and data-driven farming. This is a leadership position for a proactive, results-driven professional who thrives in a rural, fast-paced environment.
Responsibility
- Oversee daily livestock operations for cattle and swine, ensuring welfare, safety, and productivity across all housing and pastures.
- Design and monitor feeding programs, nutrition plans, and rations in collaboration with the farm's nutritionist.
- Lead and develop farm teams, schedule shifts, train staff on standard operating procedures, and enforce safety protocols.
- Implement and monitor biosecurity, animal health, vaccination, and disease prevention programs.
- Maintain accurate record-keeping for inventory, treatments, movement, and performance metrics using farm software.
- Manage facilities maintenance, equipment uptime, sanitation, and waste management to meet regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with veterinarians and feed suppliers to optimize herd health and production efficiency.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in agriculture, animal science, or equivalent hands-on farm experience.
- 5+ years in livestock farming with leadership or supervisory responsibilities.
- Demonstrated knowledge of cattle and swine management, breeding, nutrition, and welfare standards.
- Strong understanding of biosecurity, disease prevention, and herd health monitoring.
- Excellent people management, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Proficiency in farm management software, record-keeping, and basic financial budgeting.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, weekend shifts, and outside in all weather conditions.
