PrairieGlen Farms is seeking an experienced Livestock Farm Manager to lead our Des Moines area operation. This hands-on, strategic role oversees daily animal care, welfare, and production across our cattle and swine facilities. You will partner with a cross-functional team to optimize feed efficiency, health protocols, and overall farm performance. As Farm Manager, you will:

  • Lead day-to-day livestock management including feeding schedules, water supply, and housing cleanliness.
  • Implement and monitor biosecurity, vaccination, and herd health protocols to minimize disease risk.
  • Manage breeding programs, record keeping, and production metrics to maximize throughput.
  • Supervise farm personnel, schedule shifts, coach safety practices, and ensure compliance with labor laws.
  • Oversee inventory of feed, medications, equipment, and facility supplies; manage budget and waste control.
  • Maintain accurate records using farm management software and generate weekly performance reports.
  • Coordinate with veterinarians, extension agents, and suppliers to maintain high welfare standards.

Qualification

  • Solid knowledge of animal nutrition, welfare standards, and biosecurity.
  • Proficiency in data entry and farm management software; strong Excel skills.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, and to perform physically demanding tasks in all weather.
  • Valid driver's license; experience operating farm equipment preferred.
