Prairie Crest Livestock Co. is seeking an experienced Farm Manager to oversee day-to-day operations on our growing beef cattle and sheep operation near Davenport, Iowa. This leadership role combines hands-on farming, animal welfare, and data-driven decision making to maximize productivity while maintaining strict biosecurity standards. Responsibility
- Oversee daily farm operations, including animal health, nutrition, breeding, weaning, and welfare checks.
- Plan and adjust feeding programs, pasture rotation, water systems, and climate/vet-related considerations to optimize growth and profitability.
- Monitor veterinary needs, vaccination schedules, parasite control, and preventive health protocols.
- Coordinate breeding plans, track production metrics, and generate regular performance reports for ownership.
- Lead and develop a small crew of farm workers; schedule shifts, train staff, and enforce safety policies.
- Maintain strict biosecurity, sanitation, and record-keeping procedures across all livestock areas.
- Manage inventory, feed procurement, equipment maintenance, and contractor/vendor relationships.
- Ensure compliance with local regulations and industry best practices while prioritizing animal welfare.
Qualification
- 3+ years of livestock farm management experience, preferably with cattle or sheep operations.
- Proven leadership and people-management skills; ability to train and motivate staff.
- Strong knowledge of animal nutrition, health monitoring, disease prevention, and welfare standards.
- Experience with pasture management, fencing, water systems, and handling equipment.
- Data-driven mindset with proficiency in farm management software and Excel; ability to interpret production metrics.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational abilities.
- Willingness to work long hours, weekends, and in varying weather conditions; valid driver's license.
- Commitment to safety and compliance with biosafety and environmental guidelines.
