Responsibility
- Oversee daily cattle and sheep operations, including feeding, watering, fencing, and pasture management.
- Manage farm staff, scheduling, training, and safety protocols.
- Monitor animal health, administer vaccines, coordinate with veterinarians, and maintain medical records.
- Track performance metrics, manage feed budgets, procurement, and inventory control.
- Implement pasture rotation, water systems, and grazing plans to optimize forage utilization.
- Ensure compliance with USDA/State regulations, record-keeping, and biosecurity measures.
- Maintain facilities and equipment, plan preventive maintenance, and oversee capital projects.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Agriculture or related field preferred; or 3+ years of livestock management experience.
- Proven experience in cattle and sheep farming; knowledge of nutrition, health protocols, and husbandry.
- Strong leadership, communication, and team management skills.
- Ability to read and interpret animal health records, performance data, and farm software.
- Knowledge of safety regulations, biosecurity, and basic first aid; experience with equipment operation.
- Physical stamina; ability to work outdoors in varying conditions and weekends as needed.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation; willingness to relocate to the Des Moines area if necessary.
