We are seeking a knowledgeable and hands-on Livestock Farm Operator to lead daily care, optimize production, and uphold animal welfare across our dairy herd. As part of our team, you’ll collaborate with veterinarians and agronomists, implement biosecurity measures, and contribute to sustainable farming practices that protect our animals and land.
Responsibility
- Oversee daily care of livestock including feeding, milking supervision, monitoring health and welfare, and humane handling.
- Monitor herd health, coordinate vaccinations, parasite control, and veterinary visits.
- Maintain accurate records for breeding, calving, milk production, feed usage, and inventory.
- Enforce biosecurity and sanitation protocols to protect animals and facilities.
- Operate and maintain farm equipment, milking systems, feeders, water lines, and waste management.
- Lead and train a small team of farmhands; schedule tasks and ensure a safe work environment.
- Analyze production data to optimize milk yield, feed efficiency, and overall profitability.
- Collaborate with farm leadership to implement welfare and sustainability initiatives.
Qualification
- Proven experience in livestock farming; dairy or beef operation preferred.
- Strong knowledge of animal husbandry, nutrition, welfare, and basic veterinary care.
- Ability to read production and health records; data-driven decision making.
- Physical stamina with the ability to perform demanding tasks in all weather conditions.
- Leadership or supervisory experience; excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Willingness to work early mornings, weekends, and flexible hours as needed.
- Valid driver's license; reliable transportation to and from the farm.
- Certifications such as first aid, dairy cattle health, or biosecurity training are a plus.
