Responsibility
- Lead analysis and optimization of vessel navigation systems (ECDIS, ARPA, AIS, GNSS) to enhance voyage safety and efficiency.
- Collaborate with ship operators, port authorities, and vendors to ensure navigation equipment reliability and regulatory compliance (SOLAS, COLREGs).
- Develop, test, and validate software and configuration changes for navigational displays, sensor fusion, and route planning.
- Support voyage planning with accurate maritime route assessments, weather integration, and risk mitigation.
- Troubleshoot complex navigation system faults, manage escalations, and coordinate with suppliers for on-time resolution.
- Lead crew training and knowledge transfer on ECDIS usage, radar integration, and ARPA tracking procedures.
- Maintain up-to-date documentation, change logs, and adherence to international standards and certifications (STCW, GMDSS as applicable).
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with maritime navigation systems (ECDIS, AIS, ARPA, radar) in offshore or shipping contexts.
- Strong understanding of IMO SOLAS, COLREGs, and ECDIS standards and interoperability.
- Proven problem-solving and data analysis skills with a track record of system optimization.
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities, with crew-facing training experience.
- Ability to operate in dynamic maritime environments and travel for installations or commissioning as needed.
- Certifications: STCW Basic Safety Training; GMDSS or relevant marine certifications are a plus.
