Job description

At Nebula Core Studios, we craft immersive and technically advanced games across PC and consoles. We are seeking a Senior Gameplay Programmer to lead gameplay systems, collaborate with design and art teams, and optimize performance for complex titles.

As a key member of the engineering team, you will design and implement core gameplay features, drive code quality, and mentor junior developers. You will work closely with designers to translate creative intent into robust, maintainable systems that scale from prototyping to live service updates.

Location: Seattle, WA; remote options considered for exceptional candidates with aligned time zones and strong collaboration discipline.

Responsibility

  • Lead the design and implementation of core gameplay systems including character movement, combat, interaction models, and progression systems.
  • Collaborate with designers to translate design intent into robust, maintainable code and data pipelines.
  • Architect scalable gameplay architectures for single-player and multiplayer experiences across platforms.
  • Profile, optimize, and debug performance to maintain smooth frame rates on PC and console targets.
  • Mentor and review code from junior developers; establish best practices and coding standards across the team.
  • Partner with tools and pipeline teams to improve content authoring, scripting, and live ops capabilities.
  • Prototype new gameplay ideas quickly and iteratively, balancing quality, scope, and schedule constraints.
  • Ensure code quality through comprehensive unit tests, automation, and CI/CD integration.

Qualification

  • Bachelor's or higher in computer science or a related field; 5+ years of professional game development experience.
  • Expert proficiency in C++ and/or C# with strong understanding of memory management and performance optimization.
  • Experience with major game engines (Unreal Engine and/or Unity) and gameplay scripting.
  • Strong problem-solving, debugging, and systems thinking abilities; proven track record shipping gameplay features.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with design teams to deliver features on time and with quality.
  • Experience with networked multiplayer, replication, and latency considerations is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset; mentoring experience a plus.
