Verdant Roots Farm & Greenhouse is seeking a Senior Horticulture Technician to lead sustainable crop production in our Portland, Oregon facilities. This role blends hands-on greenhouse management with data-driven cultivation practices to deliver premium, consistently healthy plants for our wholesale partners and community markets.
In this role you will optimize environmental control, irrigation and fertigation, nutrient management, integrated pest management, and crop scheduling while upholding rigorous quality standards. The ideal candidate has experience with temperate greenhouse systems, soil and soilless media, and collaborative cross-functional work in a fast-paced agricultural operation.
Responsibility
- Manage day-to-day greenhouse operations including climate control, irrigation, fertigation, and substrate management.
- Monitor plant health and diagnose issues; implement IPM plans.
- Develop and execute crop calendars and production schedules to meet demand.
- Oversee sanitation, safety, and record-keeping; ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with agronomists, buyers, and sales team to optimize product quality.
- Train and supervise junior horticulture staff and seasonal workers.
- Track data metrics (temperature, humidity, EC, pH, yield) and generate reports to inform decisions.
Qualification
- 3+ years of hands-on greenhouse production experience in a commercial setting.
- Knowledge of environmental control systems (climate control, irrigation controllers, fertigation).
- Strong understanding of horticultural science: soil, nutrients, IPM.
- Demonstrated ability to manage schedules, data, and quality standards.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Associate's degree or higher in Horticulture, Agricultural Science, or related field; relevant certifications (IPM, pesticide license) preferred.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds, stand for long periods, and work in a climate-controlled environment; ability to work flexible hours.
