Join Aurora Weather Labs, a leading environment and climate analytics company driving advanced weather intelligence for media, aviation, and energy sectors. We are seeking a seasoned meteorologist to lead forecasting initiatives, develop novel models, and translate atmospheric data into actionable insights for clients and product teams.
In this full-time role based in Seattle, you will collaborate with researchers, data scientists, and software engineers to deliver accurate forecasts, issue timely alerts, and communicate complex results to non-technical stakeholders. You will have access to state-of-the-art computing resources and data streams from radar, satellites, radiosondes, and numerical models.
Responsibility
- Lead development and validation of numerical weather prediction models and ensemble forecasting to produce accurate, actionable forecasts for multiple sectors.
- Analyze meteorological data from radar, satellite, and in-situ observations; perform quality control and data assimilation as needed.
- Deliver daily and hourly forecasts for aviation, energy, agriculture, and public safety, and issue warnings when appropriate.
- Collaborate with software engineers and data scientists to deploy forecast tools, dashboards, and alerting systems at scale.
- Communicate complex results to clients and stakeholders through reports, briefs, and presentations.
- Mentor junior meteorologists and contribute to research papers, workshops, and internal knowledge-sharing.
- Support product strategy by translating weather insights into practical recommendations for users and partners.
Qualification
- Master's degree in meteorology, atmospheric science or a closely related field; PhD is a plus.
- 5+ years of professional meteorology experience in forecast modeling, data analysis, and forecast communication.
- Strong programming skills in Python and R; experience with MATLAB and statistical analysis tools.
- Experience with data visualization and GIS tools (Plotly, D3, QGIS/ArcGIS).
- Hands-on experience with radar, satellite data, data assimilation, and ensemble forecasting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to convey complex concepts to diverse audiences.
- Ability to work in a cross-functional, fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
