Responsibility
- Design, plan, and execute field surveys to monitor fish populations, habitats, and bycatch indicators.
- Analyze catch and effort data using R and Python to inform stock assessments and management advice.
- Develop and maintain statistical models, growth curves, and stock projections under various scenarios.
- Collaborate with researchers, managers, and industry partners to translate findings into practical policy and harvest strategies.
- Ensure rigorous data quality, documentation, and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and stakeholder briefs for diverse audiences.
- Oversee field teams during sampling campaigns and mentor junior staff on data collection methods.
- Coordinate project timelines, budgets, and deliverables while communicating progress to leadership.
Qualification
- Master's degree in Marine Biology, Fisheries Science, or a related field (PhD preferred).
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in fisheries research, stock assessments, or aquaculture projects.
- Proficiency in R and Python for data analysis; experience with SQL and GIS is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of stock assessment methods (e.g., age-structured models, VPA, Bayesian approaches).
- Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to present complex data to stakeholders and decision-makers.
- Willingness to travel for fieldwork and to work in dynamic coastal environments.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in cross-disciplinary teams and manage competing deadlines.
