SeaTrace Solutions is seeking a driven Senior Fisheries Biologist to join our interdisciplinary team dedicated to sustainable ocean management. You will design and execute research that informs stock assessments, ecosystem-based management, and policy recommendations. This role blends field work with advanced data analysis to deliver actionable insights for clients across the public and private sectors. Responsibility
- Lead and manage fisheries research projects from design to delivery, including objectives, timelines, budgets, and stakeholder communications.
- Design field sampling campaigns, coordinate crews, and ensure data quality and compliance with relevant regulations.
- Analyze catch, effort, and biological data using R, Python, and GIS to estimate stock status and trends.
- Develop stock assessment models and support management decision-making processes for regional fisheries agencies.
- Prepare technical reports, policy briefs, and presentations for diverse audiences.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate scientific findings into practical management recommendations.
- Contribute to grant writing, project proposals, and client-facing deliverables.
- Mentor junior staff and graduate students, fostering a culture of rigorous science and continuous learning.
Qualification
- Master's degree or PhD in Fisheries Science, Marine Biology, Ecology, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in fisheries research, stock assessment, or ecosystem-based management.
- Strong proficiency in R and Python for statistical analysis and reproducible research.
- Experience with GIS (ArcGIS/QGIS) and spatial analysis of marine environments.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and communicate technical results to non-technical audiences.
- Excellent project management, organizational, and teamwork skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Knowledge of regulatory frameworks (e.g., Magnuson-Stevens Act) and ethical research practices.
- Willingness to travel for fieldwork and stakeholder meetings as needed.
