BlueHorizon Fisheries, a leading practitioner in sustainable marine resource management, is seeking a Fisheries Scientist to join our Bergen team. This role blends fieldwork with advanced stock assessment to inform responsible harvest strategies and policy recommendations.
In this role you will work closely with our data science and field teams to transform observations into actionable insights for regulators, fishing communities, and stakeholders.

Responsibility
- Lead stock assessments and data analyses to estimate biomass, recruitment, and exploitation rates.
- Design and implement fisheries monitoring programs, data collection protocols, and field sampling plans.
- Apply quantitative models (R, Python, Stock Synthesis, Bayesian methods) to evaluate stock status and management options.
- Collaborate with government regulators, industry partners, and local communities to translate results into actionable management advice.
- Prepare technical reports, policy briefs, and peer-reviewed manuscripts; present findings to diverse audiences.
- Support sustainable harvest decisions by contributing to quota recommendations and harvest strategies.
- Lead or mentor junior staff and coordinate cross-functional project teams, ensuring timely delivery and quality control.
Qualification
- Master's degree in Marine Biology, Fisheries Science, or a related field (PhD preferred).
- 3+ years of experience in fisheries science, stock assessment, or closely related roles.
- Strong quantitative skills with proficiency in R and/or Python; experience with stock assessment models and GIS.
- Field sampling experience in marine environments, including design of sampling programs and data quality assurance.
- Knowledge of Norwegian and EU fisheries regulations is a plus; excellent written and verbal communication in English (Norwegian beneficial).
- Proven ability to collaborate across disciplines and with external stakeholders; strong project management and organizational skills.
- Willingness to travel for field work and stakeholder engagement as needed.
