Job description

NovaPeak Manufacturing is seeking a proactive Industrial Relations Specialist to lead labor relations strategy, negotiate collective agreements, and ensure compliance across our Chicago-based operations. You will partner with HR, operations leaders, and union representatives to foster productive employee relations and mitigate risk.

Key focus areas include policy development, case management, and delivering training on IR best practices. This role requires strong negotiation, analytic thinking, and excellent communication skills.

Responsibility

  • Develop and execute strategic industrial relations plans aligned with business objectives across manufacturing sites.
  • Lead collective bargaining processes, prepare proposals, and negotiate with union representatives to secure favorable terms.
  • Provide guidance on disciplinary matters, grievances, and investigations to ensure policy compliance and timely resolution.
  • Monitor NLRA, OSHA, EEO, and state/federal labor laws; update policies and training accordingly.
  • Collaborate with HR and operations to implement proactive employee relations programs and conflict resolution strategies.
  • Analyze workforce data and metrics to identify trends and recommend risk-mitigation actions.
  • Deliver training and coaching to managers on IR best practices, policy interpretation, and fair employment principles.
  • Prepare clear, objective written reports and maintain thorough documentation of IR activities.

Qualification

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Relations, Human Resources, Law, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in industrial or labor relations within a manufacturing or unionized environment.
  • Proven track record in collective bargaining negotiations and dispute resolution.
  • Strong knowledge of NLRA, FMLA, ADA, OSHA, EEO, and relevant state regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills; ability to influence at all organizational levels.
  • Data-driven mindset with the ability to analyze trends and translate insights into policy and practice.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; high ethical standards and integrity.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., SHRM-IR, IPMA, or similar) are a plus.
