NovaIP Solutions is seeking a Senior Intellectual Property Counsel to lead patent and trademark strategy for our rapidly expanding tech portfolio. This role combines strategic guidance, collaboration with product and engineering teams, and hands-on IP filing and enforcement across multiple jurisdictions. Ideal for an IP professional with a proven record in patent prosecution, licensing, and competitive analysis.
Location: San Francisco, CA (hybrid).
Responsibility
- Develop and execute the company's IP strategy across patent, trademark, and copyright portfolios to support product roadmaps and growth.
- Manage patent lifecycle: drafting, filing, office actions, amendments, and appeals; coordinate with outside counsel as needed.
- Lead trademark clearance, filing, monitoring, and enforcement programs; oversee brand protection efforts.
- Drive IP due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, partnerships, and licensing negotiations; identify risk and monetization opportunities.
- Collaborate with R&D and product teams to identify patentable inventions, conduct freedom-to-operate analyses, and perform competitive landscaping.
- Oversee IP risk management and litigation strategy; coordinate with outside counsel and internal stakeholders.
- Draft and negotiate licensing, technology transfer, cross-licensing, and collaboration agreements; manage IP budgets and metrics.
Qualification
- J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school; bar admission in California or eligibility to practice.
- Minimum 6+ years of intellectual property experience, preferably in the technology sector, with strong patent prosecution background.
- Expertise in patent law, trademark, copyright, licensing, and global IP landscape; experience with U.S. and international filings.
- Proven ability to work with engineering and product teams to identify patentable inventions and perform FTO analyses.
- Strong negotiation, drafting, and communication skills; experience directing outside counsel and managing budgets.
- Demonstrated project management and cross-functional collaboration capabilities; proactive and business-minded approach.
- Preferred: advanced technical degree (engineering, computer science) and USPTO patent bar; experience with fintech or AI/semiconductor tech is a plus.
