As IP Counsel, you will partner with R&D, product, and business teams to identify, protect, and monetize intellectual property assets, while collaborating with external counsel on patent prosecution, licensing, and freedom-to-operate initiatives.

We offer a collaborative culture, competitive compensation, and ample opportunities for leadership and professional growth as you help drive a world-class IP program.

Responsibility

  • Lead development and execution of the firm's IP strategy in collaboration with R&D and executive stakeholders.
  • Manage patent portfolio across multiple jurisdictions, including drafting, prosecution, and maintenance of patent applications.
  • Provide counsel on trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets as appropriate and ensure alignment with business goals.
  • Oversee IP due diligence for collaborations, licensing discussions, joint ventures, and M&A activities.
  • Draft, negotiate, and close licensing, collaboration, and technology transfer agreements with external partners.
  • Coordinate with external patent counsel, manage budgets, and ensure timely filings and decision milestones.
  • Conduct FTO analyses, competitive intelligence, and risk assessments to inform product strategy.
  • Mentor junior lawyers and paralegals; contribute to firm-wide IP initiatives and knowledge sharing.

Qualification

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and admission to the Massachusetts Bar (or eligibility and plan to sit for exam).
  • Minimum 7 years of IP experience, preferably with in-house and/or law firm backgrounds handling patents, trademarks, and related IP matters.
  • Strong technical background in electrical engineering, computer science, biotechnology, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated success in patent preparation and prosecution before USPTO and international offices; experience with filing strategies.
  • Proficiency in licensing, collaborations, and technology transfer agreements; demonstrated negotiation skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, collaboration, and project management abilities.
  • Experience with IP management software and processes; ability to manage external counsel and a high-volume docket.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with R&D, product, and business teams in a fast-paced environment.
