Job description
NorthStar Analytics is seeking a Senior Statistician to join our growing data science team in San Francisco. You will design and execute high-impact statistical analyses, build predictive models, and drive data-driven decision making across product and business units. Collaborating with data engineers, data scientists, and business stakeholders, you will translate complex data into actionable insights that inform strategy and operations.
As a Senior Statistician, you will lead complex analyses, guide experimental design, and communicate insights to executive stakeholders to shape strategy.
Responsibility
- Lead and execute advanced statistical analyses (Bayesian and frequentist approaches) to inform product and business decisions.
- Design and analyze experiments including A/B tests and multivariate experiments; provide actionable recommendations.
- Develop predictive models and scoring systems, validating performance and ensuring robust deployment.
- Collaborate with data engineers and data scientists to define data requirements, metrics, and data quality standards.
- Translate complex analytics into clear, data-driven narratives for non-technical stakeholders using dashboards and reports.
- Mentor junior analysts, promote best practices for reproducibility, and contribute to documentation and governance.
Qualification
- Master's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or related field; PhD preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in applied statistics, data science, or analytics roles.
- Proficiency in R and Python; strong SQL skills.
- Deep understanding of experimental design, hypothesis testing, causal inference, and model evaluation.
- Experience with machine learning techniques and model deployment in production.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to present technical findings to non-technical audiences.
- Experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI, or ggplot) and storytelling.
- Familiarity with SAS or STATA is a plus.
