We are seeking a motivated Archaeologist to support field surveys, excavations, artifact analysis, and reporting in the Charleston, South Carolina region. Responsibility
- Plan and execute field surveys and excavations in accordance with professional standards and regulatory requirements.
- Lead or assist digging teams, ensuring safety, data integrity, and efficient field operations.
- Document stratigraphy, context, finds, and site conditions with notes, photography, drawings, and GIS data.
- Process and analyze artifacts in the laboratory, contributing to typology, dating, and research questions.
- Manage project logistics, permits, and vendor communications with CRM agencies and stakeholders.
- Produce clear, impactful site reports, management recommendations, and public-facing summaries.
- Collaborate with historians, conservators, and community partners to disseminate findings responsibly.
Qualification
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field; field experience required (3+ years preferred).
- Proven field archaeology experience, preferably in CRM, rescue, or cultural heritage projects.
- Strong knowledge of stratigraphy, context recording, artifact handling, and lab processing.
- Proficiency with GIS (ArcGIS, QGIS) and data management tools; experience with photogrammetry is a plus.
- Excellent report writing, communication, and teamwork skills; ability to convey complex findings to diverse audiences.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions, hike over uneven terrain, and carry equipment; valid driver’s license required.
- Commitment to safety, ethics, and regulatory compliance; willingness to travel as needed.
