Join HeritageQuest Archaeology & Cultural Heritage as a full-time Archaeology Field Technician based in Santa Fe, New Mexico. You will work with a multidisciplinary team on cultural heritage projects across the Southwest, conducting field surveys, excavation support, artifact handling, and site documentation. Responsibility
- Perform systematic field surveys and assist in limited excavations following approved methodologies.
- Document site conditions, stratigraphy, feature delineation, and artifact finds using standardized forms, photography, and GIS tools.
- Handle, label, and curate artifacts in accordance with museum and legal standards.
- Assist with data entry, manage site notebooks, GIS data, and prepare interim progress reports.
- Collaborate with researchers, curation staff, landowners, and project managers to support project goals.
- Ensure health and safety protocols on fieldwork and manage field equipment and logistics.
- Contribute to post-field analysis, lab processing, and preliminary artifact analysis.
Qualification
- BA/BS in archaeology, anthropology, geology, or a related field; or equivalent field experience.
- Prior field experience with archaeological surveys, test pits, or limited excavations.
- Knowledge of archaeological recording standards, provenience, stratigraphy, and artifact handling.
- Experience with GIS (QGIS or ArcGIS) and basic data management.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work in teams and outdoor environments.
- Physically able to perform fieldwork, lift equipment, and navigate uneven terrain; valid driver’s license.
- Willingness to travel within the Southwest and work irregular hours as project needs demand.
