Job description

Join our multidisciplinary archaeology team dedicated to uncovering the past while safeguarding heritage. Based in Charleston, SC, this full-time position offers fieldwork, artifact analysis, and public-facing outreach with a leading Cultural Resource Management (CRM) firm.

You will collaborate on CRM projects across the Southeastern United States, coordinating with field crews, laboratory staff, and stakeholders to deliver rigorous reporting and compliant documentation.

Responsibility

  • Plan, coordinate, and conduct field surveys, test excavations, site recording, and mapping in compliance with state and federal guidelines.
  • Supervise field crews, enforce safety protocols, manage data collection, photography, GIS data capture, and site documentation.
  • Procure and organize artifacts, measure stratigraphy, and oversee screening and flotation activities in the field and lab.
  • Process and analyze recovered materials in the laboratory, including typology, dating, conservation, and curation.
  • Prepare, edit, and present technical reports, NRHP/SHPO documentation, and CRM compliance narratives for clients and agencies.
  • Coordinate with clients, consultants, and stakeholders; contribute to permit applications and monitoring plans.
  • Mentor junior staff and interns; contribute to training materials and field manuals.

Qualification

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of field experience in CRM, university digs, or related programs.
  • Strong knowledge of Southeastern US archaeology, artifact handling, stratigraphy, and site recording.
  • Proficiency with GIS (ArcGIS), data management, and basic statistical methods; experience with photogrammetry is a plus.
  • Familiarity with museum cataloging, artifact conservation basics, and lab workflows.
  • Excellent report writing, presentation, and communication skills; ability to communicate findings to clients and public audiences.
  • Willingness to travel regionally; valid driver's license and ability to field supervise in varying conditions.
