Job description
Charleston Heritage Institute is seeking a motivated Archaeology Field Lead to oversee season-long excavations, artifact recovery, and site documentation. You will coordinate field crews, ensure safety and compliance with cultural heritage guidelines, and contribute to scholarly reports and public outreach.

Responsibility
- Plan and supervise field excavations, ensuring methodological rigor and data integrity.
- Coordinate daily field operations, safety, scheduling, and crew assignments.
- Implement site documentation processes, including context records, photography, site plans, and GPS data.
- Collect, label, and curate artifacts; coordinate laboratory processing and analysis.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal cultural resource regulations; prepare interim and final reports.
- Collaborate with researchers, students, and community stakeholders; contribute to publications and outreach.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field; Master's preferred.
- 3–5 years of field archaeology experience with demonstrated leadership roles.
- Proficiency in field recording methods, GPS, GIS, and artifact curation.
- Strong knowledge of stratigraphy, typology, dating methods, and laboratory processing.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; experience preparing reports and publications.
- Ability to supervise diverse teams, enforce safety protocols, and manage field logistics.
- Willingness to travel, work outdoors in varied weather, and accommodate irregular schedules.
