Job description
Join our heritage-focused research team in Athens as an Archaeology Field Technician. This position offers hands-on fieldwork, rigorous data collection, and opportunities to contribute to ongoing excavations and cultural heritage projects across Greece.
You will work closely with senior archaeologists to document sites, supervise recording of artifacts, and support post-field analysis. The role emphasizes safety, ethical practices, and meticulous documentation to support scholarly research and public engagement.
Responsibility
- Assist with field excavations, site recording, and artifact handling under senior archaeologists
- Document stratigraphic layers and context using standardized forms and digital tablets
- Take precise measurements, sketches, and GPS data to support mapping and site planning
- Maintain site safety and ethics compliance in accordance with local regulations
- Process and catalog recovered artifacts, ensuring conservation best practices
- Collaborate with researchers on site reports, photos, and data submission
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field (or final-year student)
- Field experience in archaeological excavations or surveys
- Strong understanding of stratigraphy, context recording, and artifact handling
- Proficiency with GIS, digitization, or digital recording tools is a plus
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and physically demanding environments
- Excellent communication skills in English and Greek; a valid driver's license preferred
