Horizon Heritage Research is seeking a motivated Archaeology Field Technician to join our dynamic team in Athens, Greece. This full time position offers hands on fieldwork at significant sites, collaboration with experts, and opportunities for career growth in heritage science.
As a Field Technician, you will participate in all phases of field projects from site survey and excavation to documentation and post field lab work. You will contribute to high quality reporting and help protect and interpret cultural resources for future generations.
Responsibility
- Assist in archaeological surveys and excavations at sites in the Athens region.
- Record stratigraphic contexts, feature boundaries, and artifact provenances using standard field methods.
- Manage field equipment, safety protocols, and site logistics to ensure smooth operations.
- Document finds with precise notes, photography, and GIS based mapping where applicable.
- Prepare small finds, wash and catalog artifacts for curation and analysis.
- Collaborate with researchers, conservators, and lab staff on processing and interpretation.
- Contribute to excavation reports and site publications through clear and accurate reporting.
- Assist in heritage compliance activities and liaise with local authorities as needed.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a closely related field; fieldwork experience preferred.
- Hands on field experience with excavation techniques, recording, and artifact handling.
- Basic knowledge of stratigraphy, typology, and artifact conservation concepts; GIS fundamentals are a plus.
- Strong physical stamina and ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
- Excellent attention to detail, organization, and written and verbal communication skills in English; Greek is a plus.
- Ability to work well in a team, follow safety guidelines, and adapt to field realities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard data recording tools; familiarity with field notebooks and photography equipment.
