The Archaeology Field Technician will contribute to excavations, site surveys, artifact handling, and meticulous documentation, ensuring compliance with national heritage laws and best practices in archaeological documentation.

Responsibility

  • Conduct and assist with field surveys, test pits, and controlled excavations at assigned sites in accordance with project plans.
  • Record precise stratigraphic data, photos, and context using standardized recording forms and GIS tools.
  • Assist with artifact handling, labeling, cleaning, and temporary curatorial storage following established guidelines.
  • Prepare field notes and daily progress reports; contribute to final excavation reports and site monographs.
  • Coordinate with licensed archaeologists, vendors, and local authorities to ensure compliance and safety at field sites.
  • Support lab processing, artifact cataloging, conservation assessments, and site documentation for dissemination to stakeholders.
  • Assist with teaching and outreach activities, including site interpretation and public-facing presentations as required.

Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field; Master’s preferred for advanced roles.
  • Minimum 1-2 years field experience in archaeological surveys or CRM projects; internships also considered.
  • Experience with GPS, total station, GIS (QGIS/ArcGIS) and basic artifact handling procedures.
  • Strong record-keeping, attention to detail, and ability to work in challenging outdoor environments.
  • Ability to read and communicate in English; Greek language skills are highly desirable.
  • Physical stamina for fieldwork, willingness to travel, and valid driving license; willingness to work in variable weather.
  • Uphold safety standards and wear appropriate PPE; ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary teams.
