Join the Coastal Heritage Institute as an Archaeology Field Technician, contributing to nationally significant heritage projects in Charleston, South Carolina.
We seek motivated field professionals to support excavation, survey, and site documentation under a multidisciplinary team. You will work outdoors in varying weather, implement data collection protocols, and assist with artifact handling and lab preparation.

Responsibility
- Conduct archaeological field surveys and stratigraphic excavations under supervision
- Record site observations, measurements, and artifact contexts using standard forms and digital tools
- Assist with GIS mapping, drone imagery coordination, and subsurface testing
- Handle, bag, label, and transport artifacts following curation standards
- Prepare field notes, daily logs, and preliminary site reports
- Support safety training, risk assessments, and field logistics
- Collaborate with researchers, tribal partners, and stakeholders to ensure compliance and stewardship
Qualification
- BA or BS in Archaeology, Anthropology, or closely related field with field experience
- 1–3 years of field archaeology experience; CRM or academic projects acceptable
- Strong attention to detail, data accuracy, and organizational skills
- Experience handling artifacts, recording contexts, and stratigraphic data
- Proficiency with GIS and data management tools; familiarity with mapping software
- Ability to work outdoors in varied weather and lift up to 40 lbs
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel for fieldwork
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and safety awareness
