Job description
We are seeking a dedicated Archaeology Field Technician to support archaeological surveys, stratigraphic recording, and artifact handling on heritage projects across the Southeast. This role combines fieldwork, data collection, and collaborative research in a dynamic environment with a commitment to ethical heritage conservation.
As part of our team, you will work with professional archaeologists, contribute to excavation strategies, and ensure rigorous documentation, safety, and cultural sensitivity on every site.
Responsibility
- Conduct field surveys, site visits, and excavation support on scheduled projects.
- Document stratigraphy, feature boundaries, and artifact contexts using standardized recording methods.
- Collect, label, and transport artifacts following curation guidelines; assist in on-site conservation prep.
- Assist with GIS data collection, mapping, and site plans; maintain field notebooks and photography records.
- Maintain site safety, environmental controls, and compliance with state and federal regulations.
- Prepare field notes, daily progress reports, and digital records for project documentation.
- Coordinate with lab staff for artifact processing and curation; support reporting and publication efforts.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in archaeology, anthropology, or related field; field school certification accepted.
- 2+ years of field experience in archaeological surveys or excavations; experience with stratigraphic recording preferred.
- Proficiency with field recording software and GIS (ArcGIS/QGIS) or CAD tools; familiarity with GPS/total station a plus.
- Knowledge of artifact handling, conservation, and basic laboratory procedures.
- Strong written and verbal communication, meticulous attention to detail, and ability to work in varying weather conditions.
- Willingness to travel to project sites; valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
