Our organization is seeking a motivated Archaeology Field Technician to join a dynamic team conducting cultural resource management projects across the Pacific Northwest. The role blends field exploration with meticulous documentation, artifact handling, and collaborative research to support heritage preservation and compliant reporting.
In this position, you’ll work on approved excavations, site surveys, and artifact recording, ensure strict site safety protocols, and help prepare interpretive reports for clients and stakeholders. The ideal candidate combines hands-on field experience with strong writing and data management skills, and a passion for cultural heritage.
Responsibility
- Conduct archaeological field surveys, test pits, and excavation units under supervision.
- Document site stratigraphy, context, and artifacts using standard forms, photography, and 2D/3D recording.
- Manage artifact handling, labeling, conservation, and curation in field and lab settings.
- Prepare daily field notes, site maps, and preliminary site reports; coordinate with project managers and regulators.
- Assist with laboratory analyses including basic processing, cataloging, and preparation of finds for conservation.
- Assist in the development of site interpretation reports and final deliverables for clients.
- Ensure compliance with permits, safety protocols, and ethical guidelines; communicate with property owners and stakeholders.
- Support community engagement and outreach as needed.
Qualification
- B.A./B.S. in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field (or near completion).
- Field experience in CRM or academic projects; ability to work in remote conditions; physically capable of hiking and lifting.
- Proficiency with field recording methods, GPS/Total Station, trenching, backfilling.
- Experience with artifact handling, cataloging, conservation techniques.
- Strong written and verbal communication; ability to prepare reports and notes.
- Knowledge of health and safety standards; valid driver's license; ability to obtain CHS safety certification.
- Familiarity with GIS software (ArcGIS) and basic data management.
- Willingness to work weekends and adapt to field schedules.
