Pacific Archival Solutions is seeking a detail-oriented Archiving Specialist to manage digital and physical archives, ensure long-term preservation, and improve access for researchers and stakeholders. This role blends traditional archival practices with modern digital preservation standards. You will work with metadata, cataloging, and retention schedules to support compliant records management.
Location: Seattle, WA with hybrid work options.
Responsibility
- Develop and implement archival policies, retention schedules, and access procedures to safeguard organizational knowledge.
- Catalog and describe archival materials using standardized metadata schemas (Dublin Core, EAD, METS) to facilitate discoverability.
- Manage digitization projects, ingest workflows, quality control, and metadata enhancement in archival platforms.
- Oversee physical storage, preservation planning, environmental monitoring, packing, and disaster preparedness.
- Perform appraisal, accessioning, and transfer of records from departments to the archive repository.
- Coordinate access services, reference requests, and user training for researchers and staff.
- Collaborate with IT and librarians to integrate archives with databases and search interfaces; contribute to finding aids and digital exhibits.
- Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and privacy requirements, including copyright and data governance.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Library Science, History, Records Management, or related field; MLS/MLIS preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in archival processing, cataloging, or digital preservation.
- Strong knowledge of metadata standards (Dublin Core, EAD, METS) and authority control.
- Experience with archival software such as ArchivesSpace, Preservica, or AtoM, and basic database querying.
- Familiarity with digital preservation workflows, file formats, and risk assessment for long-term access.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple projects.
- Strong written and verbal communication, with experience supporting researchers and cross-functional teams.
- Understanding of records retention schedules, privacy, and regulatory compliance.
