Join the Cascadia Public Library System as a Library Information Specialist. This full time role delivers outstanding information services to a diverse community of patrons across in person, phone, and digital channels. You will contribute to cataloging and metadata efforts, support discovery, and partner with staff to design programs that increase access to resources. The ideal candidate combines a passion for learning with strong customer service skills and a collaborative mindset.
Responsibility
- Provide expert reference services to patrons in person, by phone, email, and chat, assisting with research and information queries.
- Perform cataloging and metadata tasks using current library standards such as MARC 21, RDA, and authority control.
- Manage and enhance the library catalog and discovery layer, including authority records and linking to digital resources.
- Support circulation and collection development by evaluating materials and assisting with acquisitions and deselection decisions.
- Deliver information literacy instruction and digital skills training for patrons and students through in person and online formats.
- Contribute to digitization projects, preservation workflows, and open data initiatives as needed.
- Analyze usage data, prepare reports, and present findings to inform collection decisions and service improvements.
- Collaborate with IT, vendors, and cross functional teams to optimize library systems and user experiences.
Qualification
- MLIS or ALA-accredited degree in library and information science, or equivalent professional experience with demonstrated competencies.
- Minimum of 2 years of professional library experience in public, academic, or special libraries.
- Proficiency with cataloging standards (MARC 21, RDA) and authority control; experience with subject headings (LCSH) is a plus.
- Experience with library management systems (eg, SirsiDynix, Ex Libris Alma) and discovery tools; ability to troubleshoot and train staff.
- Strong reference, research, and information literacy instruction abilities; comfort teaching both in person and online.
- Excellent communication, customer service, and collaboration skills; ability to work with diverse communities.
- Familiarity with digital libraries, ebooks, streaming media, and open access resources; basic knowledge of preservation and digitization is valued.
