Join LumenSky Observatory as an Astronomy Research Scientist focused on observational astronomy, data analysis, and instrument development. You will collaborate with astronomers, telescope operators, and software engineers to advance scientific discovery and public outreach.

Responsibility
- Conduct data-driven analyses of imaging and spectroscopic data from ground- and space-based observatories.
- Develop and maintain Python-based data pipelines for processing large astronomical datasets.
- Assist with telescope planning, scheduling, and operation; calibrate and characterize scientific instruments.
- Collaborate on instrument development, detector characterization, and software integration with engineering teams.
- Publish results in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences; contribute to grant proposals.
- Mentor graduate students and interns; lead outreach and public engagement activities.
Qualification
- PhD in Astronomy, Astrophysics, Physics, or related field; or MSc with extensive relevant experience.
- Strong programming skills (Python required; C/C++ a plus).
- Experience with astronomical data reduction and analysis tools (Astropy, NumPy/SciPy, DS9, CASA).
- Familiarity with telescope operations, instrumentation, detectors, and calibration procedures.
- Experience with HPC or cloud-based data storage and pipelines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to work in interdisciplinary teams.
- Track record of research productivity (publications, conference presentations).
