Responsibility
- Curate and research historical artifacts for current and future museum exhibits.
- Develop engaging exhibitions and interpretive materials for diverse audiences.
- Oversee the preservation, cataloging, and conservation of historical collections.
- Collaborate with educational staff to design public programs and resources.
- Manage loans, acquisitions, and provenance research in compliance with industry standards.
- Write scholarly articles, exhibition labels, and digital content on historical topics.
- Supervise junior curators, interns, and volunteers.
- Represent the Smithsonian at events, symposia, and professional conferences.
Qualification
- Master’s degree or Ph.D. in History, Museum Studies, or related field.
- 5+ years of curatorial or museum collections experience.
- Proven record of historical research and publication.
- Expertise in preservation, handling, and documentation of artifacts.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong project management and organizational abilities.
- Familiarity with collections management software and digital archives.
- Ability to collaborate and engage with colleagues, donors, and the public.
