Beacon Archives & History Institute invites a dynamic Senior Historian & Research Analyst to join our collaborative team in Boston. This full-time role combines rigorous archival research, scholarly publication, and public-facing programming to illuminate the past for diverse audiences.
As a core member of our research division, you will design and lead research projects, mentor junior scholars, and contribute to exhibits and digital initiatives that bring history to life.
Responsibility
- Lead original archival research projects and produce high-quality historical analyses for publications, exhibitions, and digital platforms.
- Collaborate with curators, educators, and digital teams to develop engaging exhibits and public programs.
- Manage grant-funded research initiatives, including scope, budgeting, reporting, and deliverables.
- Mentor and supervise research interns and junior staff, fostering rigorous scholarship and professional development.
- Prepare scholarly articles, policy briefs, and introductory materials for diverse audiences.
- Coordinate with community partners to expand access to archives and historical resources.
- Contribute to collection management, metadata standards, and digitization efforts as needed.
Qualification
- Master’s degree or PhD in History or related field; alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years of professional research, publication, or teaching experience in historical studies.
- Strong archival research skills with demonstrated ability to work with primary source materials.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; experience presenting to diverse audiences.
- Proficiency in digital humanities tools, data management, and scholarly workflows.
- Experience with grant writing, budgeting, and project management.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team; knowledge of Boston-area history is a plus.
