Join our prestigious Imperial Heritage Institute in London as a Senior Historian. This role blends rigorous scholarly research with dynamic public engagement, underpinning our national and international programs.
We seek a collaborative, publication-driven historian with a strong track record in primary source research, historiography, and curatorial collaboration. You will lead research projects, contribute to exhibitions, and mentor a growing team of researchers and interns.
Responsibility
- Lead original historical research using primary sources, archives, and digital collections to produce high-quality publications and exhibits.
- Manage archival projects, ensure accurate cataloging, and oversee conservation and access policies.
- Design and deliver public history programs, lectures, tours, and educator resources.
- Collaborate with curators, digital teams, educators, and external partners to develop rotating exhibitions.
- Mentor junior researchers, interns, and visiting scholars; supervise research assistants.
- Prepare grant proposals, manage project budgets, and coordinate with fundraising teams.
- Communicate complex historical findings to diverse audiences via articles, blogs, catalogs, and digital media.
- Present at conferences and contribute to the institute's strategic research agenda.
Qualification
- PhD in History or related discipline; minimum of 5 years' research experience post-PhD.
- Strong track record of peer-reviewed publications and/or public-history outputs.
- Extensive archival research skills and experience with primary sources across periods and regions relevant to the role.
- Proficiency in historiographical methods and critical analysis; excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience with grant writing, budgeting, and project management; ability to lead complex research projects.
- Familiarity with digital humanities tools, databases, and exhibit planning; basic data visualization is a plus.
- Ability to translate scholarly work for non-specialist audiences; experience with public-facing programs.
- Fluent or proficient in at least one relevant historical language (e.g., Latin, French, German) preferred.
