Job description

GECO Asia Pte. Ltd is seeking a passionate Database Administrator/Engineer to join a critical and long-term project based in Singapore. In this role, you will ensure the reliability, performance, and security of our enterprise databases across on-premises and cloud environments. You will work closely with development teams, data engineers, and IT infrastructure to design scalable data architectures and implement best practices in database administration.

As a DBA/DBA Engineer, you will monitor health, optimize SQL queries, manage backups and disaster recovery, and contribute to data governance initiatives. Responsibility

  • Install, configure, and maintain relational databases (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL) with high availability and disaster recovery planning.
  • Monitor database performance, analyze slow queries, and implement indexing and query optimization strategies.
  • Design and enforce backup, recovery, and continuity procedures to protect data integrity.
  • Manage database security, access controls, auditing, encryption, and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with development teams to optimize data models, schemas, and stored procedures; support CI/CD and automation initiatives.
  • Plan and execute data migrations, upgrades, and patching with minimal downtime.
  • Provide incident response and root-cause analysis for database-related issues, with clear documentation.

Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a Database Administrator or Database Engineer, with hands-on expertise in multiple RDBMS (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL).
  • Strong SQL, PL/SQL, and T-SQL skills; experience with performance tuning and query optimization.
  • Experience with cloud database services (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Google Cloud SQL) and hybrid environments is a plus.
  • Familiarity with backup/restore strategies, disaster recovery planning, and data governance.
  • Knowledge of database security, encryption, auditing, and compliance practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork abilities; able to document technical concepts clearly.
