Join our team as a Field Archaeologist in Athens, Greece, where heritage research meets modern practice. Horizon Archaeology & Cultural Heritage is seeking skilled professionals to lead excavation teams, document findings, and contribute to high-impact public archaeology initiatives. Responsibility
- Plan and execute field surveys and excavations following approved methodologies
- Record stratigraphic data, context sheets, and artifact inventories
- Supervise and train field crew; ensure health, safety, and site security
- Coordinate with laboratories for artifact cleaning, conservation, and analysis
- Prepare daily field reports, site diaries, and preliminary interpretations
- Deliver progress briefings to stakeholders and collaborate with researchers
- Assist in artifact cataloging, photography, and GIS mapping
- Contribute to publication-ready reports and presentations
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field; masters preferred
- Minimum 2 years field archaeology experience, including recording data and safety compliance
- Experience with stratigraphy, typology, and artifact analysis
- Proficiency with GIS (QGIS/ArcGIS) and digital recording tools
- Strong written and oral communication in English; Greek language skills a plus
- Ability to work outdoors in varied climates and travel for fieldwork
- Team player with meticulous attention to detail and problem solving skills
