BlueHarbor Fisheries Ltd. is a leading provider of sustainable seafood and data-driven ocean management. We are seeking a Fisheries Data Analyst to join our team in Portland, ME. This role blends biological insight with data engineering to support stock assessments, regulatory reporting, and strategic harvest planning.

You will work cross-functionally with Fisheries, Operations, and Compliance to transform raw catch, effort, and environmental data into actionable insights that protect fish populations and optimize supply chain performance.

Responsibility

  • Collect, clean, and analyze catch, effort, and environmental data from multiple sources to support stock assessments and harvest planning.
  • Develop dashboards and reports using SQL, Python, and R to deliver actionable insights to management and fisheries managers.
  • Support regulatory reporting and stock assessment processes, ensuring compliance with local and national guidelines.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Harvest Planning, and Compliance teams to optimize harvest strategies while minimizing bycatch and ecosystem impact.
  • Build predictive models for stock abundance, recruitment, and environmental drivers to forecast trends and inform policy.
  • Maintain data quality through governance, documentation, and validation; create and maintain data dictionaries and metadata.
  • Assist in field data collection and coordination with observers or port sampling programs as needed.

Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in Fisheries Science, Ecology, Marine Biology, Statistics, or a related field; master's degree preferred.
  • Proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language (Python or R); experience with data visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI) is a plus.
  • Experience handling fisheries data (catch, effort, VMS, and observer data) and familiarity with stock assessment concepts.
  • Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and ability to translate complex data into clear insights for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills; ability to work cross-functionally with Fisheries, Operations, and Compliance teams.
  • Willingness to work in Portland, ME with occasional field or port-based activities; remote options may be considered for the right candidate.
