Weβre seeking a Fisheries Data Analyst to transform complex fishery data into actionable insights that support stock assessments, quota setting, and conservation strategies. At Pacific Current Fisheries, youβll work with a cross-functional team of biologists, data scientists, and policy professionals to turn data into decisions that sustain marine resources for generations.
Responsibility
- Collect, clean, and harmonize fisheries catch, effort, and biological data from multiple sources to produce reliable datasets.
- Develop stock assessment datasets and support modeling efforts to inform quotas, harvest strategy, and conservation measures.
- Collaborate with biologists, ecologists, and policy specialists to translate data insights into practical recommendations and reports.
- Build interactive dashboards and automated reporting using R, Python, and GIS tools to communicate trends to internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensure data quality, documentation, and reproducibility of analyses; contribute to SOPs and metadata standards.
- Support grant reporting, project proposals, and stakeholder communications with clear, data-driven narratives.
- Identify opportunities to improve data collection and monitoring programs to enhance stock assessments and fisheries governance.
Qualification
- Master's degree in Marine Biology, Fisheries Science, Ecology, or a related field; PhD a plus.
- 3+ years of hands-on fisheries data analysis, stock assessment, or related modeling experience.
- Proficiency in R and Python for data analysis; strong SQL skills; experience with GIS (ArcGIS or QGIS).
- Familiarity with stock assessment methods (e.g., Virtual Population Analysis, surplus production models) and uncertainty analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to present technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Commitment to sustainable fisheries and knowledge of relevant regulatory frameworks and market considerations.
