GlobalFreelance Network is seeking a versatile Freelance Software Engineer & Technical Writer for contract engagements with our diverse client base. This role blends hands-on development with clear, consumable technical documentation. The ideal candidate thrives in a remote, fast-paced environment and can partner with clients across different time zones.
In this contract position, you will work on client projects end-to-end, from architecture and implementation to documentation and knowledge transfer. You will join our distributed team and collaborate with product managers, designers, and other contractors to deliver high-quality software and documentation that empower users and developers alike.
Responsibility
- Develop and maintain web and mobile features using modern frameworks (e.g., React, Node.js, Python) for client projects.
- Write clear, thorough technical documentation, API references, and user guides tailored to developers and end users.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and clients to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Deliver high-quality, tested code; participate in code reviews and knowledge sharing.
- Manage multiple freelance engagements, estimate effort, and communicate progress and risks to clients.
- Optimize performance, security, and accessibility while following best practices and coding standards.
- Contribute to tooling and knowledge sharing to improve team productivity across projects.
Qualification
- 3+ years of professional software development experience or a strong freelancing portfolio.
- Proficiency in at least two languages (e.g., JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Go).
- Experience writing technical documentation, API references, and user guides for developers and non-technical stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, with experience working with clients remotely across time zones.
- Strong knowledge of Git, CI/CD, and modern development workflows.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing requirements.
- Portfolio or references demonstrating successful freelance engagements and client satisfaction.
- Bonus: experience with SEO-friendly content, UX writing, or API design.
