VerdantWorks AgroTech is seeking a results-driven Greenhouse Manager to lead our commercial horticulture operations in Portland, Oregon. This role combines hands-on cultivation leadership with strategic program development to scale yields, improve plant quality, and optimize resource use.
As a Greenhouse Manager, you will oversee a dynamic team, maintain safety and compliance, manage budgets, and collaborate with R&D for new cultivars and SOPs that drive sustainable growth.
Responsibility
- Oversee daily cultivation operations across the greenhouse complex, including sowing, transplanting, pruning, and harvest scheduling to meet production targets.
- Lead a cross-functional team of growers, technicians, and QA staff; provide coaching, safety training, and performance feedback.
- Monitor and optimize climate control, irrigation, nutrient delivery, and pest management to maximize yield and crop quality.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for production, sanitation, and safety while ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
- Manage budgets, labor planning, and vendor relationships for substrates, nutrients, and supplementary equipment.
- Collaborate with R&D for new cultivars and process improvements; analyze data to drive continuous improvement and sustainability metrics.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in horticulture, agronomy, or a related field, or 5+ years of greenhouse management experience.
- Minimum 3 years of leadership experience in a commercial horticulture setting.
- Expertise with climate control systems, irrigation/nutrient scheduling, and integrated pest management.
- Strong data-driven mindset with proficiency in Excel and greenhouse management software.
- Experience with safety programs, sanitation protocols, and OSHA/compliance standards.
- Excellent communication, team development, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and work in a production-oriented environment with flexible hours.
