Verdant Horizons, Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented Greenhouse Operations Manager to lead our advanced horticulture program in Davis, CA. This role blends hands-on cultivation with strategic leadership to optimize production, sustainability, and quality across multiple greenhouses.
As a key member of the operations leadership team, you will drive daily performance, manage budgets, and mentor a growing team of horticulturists, technicians, and interns. You will partner with R&D, procurement, and sustainability teams to deliver exceptional crops while reducing environmental impact.
Responsibility
- Oversee daily greenhouse operations, staffing, safety, and task scheduling to ensure consistent crop quality and on-time production.
- Lead production planning, crop cycle management, and yield optimization across multiple greenhouses.
- Manage climate control, irrigation and fertigation systems, pruning, sanitation, and plant health monitoring.
- Implement and oversee Integrated Pest Management and crop protection programs to minimize chemical input while preserving crop health.
- Analyze production data, KPIs, and operational metrics to identify improvements and drive continuous optimization.
- Oversee equipment maintenance, vendor relationships, and capital projects to ensure reliable infrastructure.
- Ensure compliance with safety, labor, and environmental regulations; develop and enforce standard operating procedures.
Qualification
- Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Plant Science, Agronomy, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
- 5+ years in commercial greenhouse or nursery operations with proven leadership experience.
- Strong knowledge of climate control, irrigation systems, fertigation, pruning, grafting, and propagation techniques.
- Experience with data-driven decision making and greenhouse management software or ERP systems.
- Excellent communication, team-building, and problem-solving skills; capable of managing cross-functional stakeholders.
- Budget management, procurement, vendor negotiation, and safety/compliance expertise.
- Willingness to perform hands-on work in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.
