Join Temporal Histories Institute, a forward-thinking museum and research nonprofit committed to making history engaging and accessible for diverse audiences. We are seeking a full-time Historian / Researcher to lead rigorous archival work, craft interpretive narratives, and contribute to public programming.
As a key member of our research team, you will collaborate with curators, educators, and digital specialists to develop accurate, intriguing historical content for exhibitions, online platforms, and educational resources.
Responsibility
- Lead original archival and primary-source research in libraries, archives, and digital collections to build substantiated historical narratives.
- Identify, evaluate, and synthesize sources across time periods and themes to support exhibitions and publications.
- Develop interpretive narratives and exhibit content in collaboration with curators and educators.
- Produce scholarly and accessible writing for catalogs, placards, online articles, and public programs.
- Contribute to grant proposals, project planning, and budgeted timelines for research initiatives.
- Present findings to internal teams and external audiences, including lectures, tours, and workshops.
- Support digital history projects, including databases, mapping, and interactive displays.
- Mentor junior researchers and interns, fostering rigorous research practices and professional development.
Qualification
- Master's degree or PhD in History, Archaeology, or a closely related field.
- Minimum 3-5 years of professional research experience in archives, museums, or academic settings.
- Strong command of historical methods, source analysis, and historiography.
- Proficiency in archival research practices and citation standards (Chicago Manual of Style or AP where appropriate).
- Experience with public history writing and exhibition copy; ability to translate complex scholarship for diverse audiences.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience with public speaking and workshop facilitation.
- Familiarity with GIS or digital humanities tools is a plus.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and collaborate across teams.
